The Well-Tempered Chocolatier

Food photography workshop, December 5th

November 23, 2009 · 2 Comments

I’m sifting through notes and proofs so that I can deliver a kick-ass synopsis of how A Night With Theo went. Thanks to everyone who was there, and for those of you who weren’t – my sincerest apologies. You missed a great night. It was a great evening, full of good people, food, wine, and of course, chocolate.

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this nugget to think about. I know that you all read my blog because the content is just so darned great. It’s intelligent, informative and witty. So why then, is said blog lacking in fabulous, original photography? Well, it’s partly because I’m lazy, partly because I can’t be arsed to use photoshop (wait, that’s still lazy) and mostly because I point and shoot at things randomly, often while flailing and trying not to spill my glass of wine. You can see why it’s easier for me to pull things from Flickr galleries or not supply any images at all.

In my defense, a photographer friend of mine shook his head when I told him I couldn’t take pictures of chocolate. “Well, of course not,” he said gently. “It all comes out looking like turd, anyway.”

I might be setting myself up for a dangerous precedent, because on December 5th, I’m taking a food photography class with none other than Jackie Connelly. Aside from the fact that I think she’s cute as a button, I’ve also had the pleasure of being in one of her workshops before. It was a good introduction, and I’m itching to learn more in her upcoming class. There are only two (two!) spots left, so get yours soon.

Keep on reading for more information, straight from Jackie herself. I hope to see you there!

Prior to your holiday baking & hours spent in the kitchen preparing gorgeous looking and tasty treats and back by popular demand is:

Food & Beverage Photography 101: A Workshop for Food Bloggers! (and other creative types!)
A 2 hour, hands on workshop taught by Jackie Connelly and hosted by Campagnolo Restaurant designed to answer the food photography questions commonly asked by food bloggers.

Why is this a perfect workshop for food bloggers?

I continually get asked how to shoot better in restaurants with low lighting, or at home in natural light, and without spending wads of cash on equipment. That is exactly what this workshop is all about:  simple and affordable solutions that will improve your photographs.

Not a food blogger? But love shooting your kitchen creations and want to learn a few techniques? That’s ok – you’re more than welcome too!

Can I be really lazy and ask you to FB or email me event announcements? I’ve got two event-based blogs, and am generally happy to post community-oriented events, ie writerly, artistic, bloggy, Vancouverish, or charity.

Quick update on the Dec5th workshop:
It has filled to capacity, but I will certainly be doing another in the New Year in Vancouver, and putting out some feelers for Victoria and the Fraser Valley as well, so please let me know if you’re interested (info@jackieconnelly.com) and I will keep you posted!
    Cheers,
    Jackie
